How to have your own spa at home

A regular spa retreat can do wonders for the body. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could check yourself into a spa every week? You could get a mani-pedi, or how about a relaxing full body massage to take care of those aching muscles? While some people can afford to spoil themselves on a regular basis for many it’s a luxury they can’t afford. If you’ve had a hectic, stressful week why don’t you pamper yourself at home? Block out the world and indulge in a rejuvenating spa day, where it’s all about you.

Here are a few ways you can have a relaxing spa-like day at home.

Set the ambience

Pick a day where you’ll be home alone or at least won’t have distractions. Unplug for a few hours by removing all technology, including turning off the TV and your phone. You don’t want to be interrupted with constant messages. Set the scene, light a few scented candles and put on your best robe. The calmer the atmosphere the more relaxed you’ll feel.

Playlist

Select a playlist which will calm and soothe you. Or you could download a white noise app and feast your ears on some relaxing sounds of nature. You can choose from  the sound of heavy rain or wind whooshing against the trees or even the ocean crashing on the shoreline.

Facial steam homestyle

If you want skin as soft as a baby's bottom you could use steam to treat your skin. Steam is good for your face because it opens up your pores, loosens the dirt and helps to clear your face of blackheads. For your facial steam you’ll need hot water, a basin and a towel. Fill up the sink with hot water and add essential oils to the mix then cover your head with a towel to trap the steam. Stay under the towel for 15 minutes while the steam from the hot water works its magic.

Bath

Light a few scented candles and create a steamy sanctuary by including relaxing music in your bathroom. Add a few essential oils to your bathwater and some bubble bath. The warm bath water will soothe and relax your muscles together with the oils. After you have finished in the bath tub moisturise your whole body from head to toe in order to leave your skin feeling smooth. It's important to moisturise whether you have extremely dry skin or normal skin. You could use Ingram's lotion which will leave your skin silky soft.

Don’t forget to also take care of your lips. Your lips need to be moisturised too, especially if you have chapped lips. Warm some coconut oil and dab it on your lips with the cotton swab. And then add a balm of your choice.

Exfoliate your body

Ever wondered how other people achieve smooth, flawless skin? Well the answer could lie in exfoliation. It’s good for your skin because it kills off all the dead cells and exposes the fresh new skin.

For a cost-effective but still luxurious exfoliation experience create your own homemade scrub into the mix. For example, you could make a coconut coffee scrub which contains the mixture of coconut oil and coffee ground. Use this mixture with your exfoliating gloves to scrub and clean your body. Coffee is good for reducing the appearance of unwanted cellulite on your body and coconut oil reduces the appearance of stretch marks.

Make sure you use this mixture in the shower because coffee can be quite messy and you don’t want to spend your spa day cleaning up.

Nails

You don’t need to spend tons of your hard earned money on a manicure or pedicure when you could do one right at home and still get amazing results.

Before you begin make sure your nails are bare. Use acetone on your nails to remove any polish. When you have removed all the nail polish the next step is to cut your nails neatly and file them so they’re all the same length. After you have completed this task soak your hands in warm water and scrub away any dirt that may be under your fingernails. The warm water will soften your cuticles and you can now push them back.

It's important to take care of your skin and look after yourself. And you don’t need to break the bank by going to the spa every month. Sometimes a spa DIY experience can do all the wonders in the world. It’ll not only leave you feeling relaxed it’s also cost effective.
